Bongaigaon, Sept. 12: The Hiteswar Barman faction of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) took out a rally at Barpara public field here today to seek support for their demands for a Kamtapur state and Scheduled Tribe status.

The union's general secretary, Troilokya Ray, took a dig at the Assam and Bengal governments for illegally occupying the land of Kamtapur.

"We are ready to take up arms if the government does not consider our issues seriously," said the union's president, Hiteswar Barman.

"If Bodos can demand Bodoland, why can't we ask for our homeland?" asked the president of the Tai Ahom Students' Union, Litul Buragohain, while addressing the gathering. He said the Koch Rajbongshis are seeking Kamtapur because they are feeling insecure in the state.

Buragohain added that the state has been run by two chief ministers - one declared and the other undeclared.

"The undeclared chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is behind all these unrests in the state. The indigenous groups have to fight for their due rights and one day this demon will eat up declared chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal," Buragohain said.

"It is very unfortunate that our 126 legislators are mum regarding the interests and rights of the indigenous communities," said the president of the Muttock Juba Chatra Sanmilan, Uday Sankar Mohan. The chairman of the Birsa Commando Force, a militant group in ceasefire, Durga Hasda, adviser to the union Atul Ray and the former president of the Dimasa Sahitya Sabha, Motilal Nunisa, among others, addressed the gathering.
