Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday announced that his government's action plan for the second year will be finalised in two to three months.
Speaking at a BJP function here to celebrate the first anniversary of the coalition government, Biren Singh expressed happiness at the "achievements" in its first year. "The first year's performance was satisfactory. The challenge will be bigger now. My government will announce the action plan for the second year in two to three months. We will show by action and not by words," Biren Singh said.
Union science and technology minister Harsh Vardhan, BJP's Northeast zonal organising secretary Ajay Jamwal and state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP K. Bhabananda, among others, were present.
Vardhan and Jamwal commended Biren Singh and his team for making Manipur "free of bandh and blockades", a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Imphal. "A significant achievement of the Biren Singh government is removing the gap between people in the hills and valley and ensuring a bandh-free Manipur," Jamwal said.
The BJP leaders also looked forward to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections while speaking at the programme. "Ministers should review the progress of development work with the chief minister every month. From booth-level workers to the chief minister, all should work together to take the welfare schemes to the people. Manipur will then be able to give two BJP MPs to Parliament and also form the next government," Jamwal said.
Biren Singh also urged ministers, MLAs, party functionaries and workers to continue to work together so the benefits of all welfare programmes reach the targeted population. "If we can achieve this, we will win the next elections by sitting at home," he claimed.
Vardhan promised the state government that the Centre was ready to provide funds for any scheme taken up by the state government. "Make schemes and we will provide funds," the minister said.
Earlier, Biren Singh visited five homes for elderly, destitute, children and a mental development centre on the occasion. The chief minister presented gifts to the inmates.
Interacting with the inmates, he said his government was giving priority to serving the poor and needy, underprivileged people, destitute children, differently-abled persons, widows and senior citizens.
Biren Singh promised that health cards under the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (chief minister's health scheme) would be provided to all inmates of homes, apart from organising health check-up camps every month.
