Dec. 5: Christmas season was ushered in grand style with heart-warming performance by Cantare, the Christ Church and Mixed Voices Choir.

The performance, held at the community hall of Christ Church, Panbazar, on Saturday drew enthusiastic response from music lovers. Christ Church happens to be the oldest church in the region.

Timeless compositions of greats like W.A. Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Handel, Schubert left the audience asking for more.

The Capella numbers (without accompaniment) like All Is Well, Otiny Child, Locus Iste and Still, Still, Still, received the highest appreciation.

The event also included Italian, Latin and Australian-German folk pieces, such as the Irving Berlin Christmas and a variant of the traditional We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

The concert was staged in three parts, with renowned musician and choir singers, including young pianist-singer-composer-arranger, Nise Meruno. Menuro who had earlier performed with Cantare in May this year at a gala concert with the famed Nagaland Chamber Choir.

Menuro is an internationally trained Delhi-based pianist.

Five songs, presented from the musical Joyful and Triumphant, arranged by Bill and Robin Wolaver, clearly showed the growth of the Cantare members in the last five years.

Cantare, which in Italian means ?to sing?, was sponsored by Corporate and Banking Strategies for Development (Cabsfotrd).

Cabsfotrd public relation co-ordinator and of Cantare choir member Mariam Fatima Islam said it was one of the most successful and memorable performances of the choir, drawing a large audience.

The choir had also invited students from different city schools to join the concert.
