The newest episode of Grammy’s For The Record celebrates the 10th anniversary of Lana Del Rey's groundbreaking major-label debut, Born To Die which brought some much-needed nuance to the one-dimensional upbeat pop genre of the early 2010s. The viral success of the track Video Games and the sleeper hit Summertime Sadness, made the baroque pop album Del Rey’s magnum opus.
The minute-long featurette talks about the artiste’s creative and commercial journey in the music industry and also explored how her low-tone vocals came to be the standout element of her music. “I actually used to sing much higher, but I felt people weren't taking me very seriously, so I lowered my voice, believing that it would help me stand out. Now I sing quite low... well, for a female anyway,” Del Ray had admitted right before the global release of the album, back in 2012.
