Roy Chowdhury allegedly posed as a member of the state's legal team and the CBI’s special counsel and tried to usurp a property in south Kolkata.

Officers of Gariahat police station in south Kolkata, where a case has been registered against him, said co-accused Kankabati Ghosh and Amarnatha Mehta had been declared absconders.

The police on Friday submitted a prayer along with the chargesheet seeking permission to submit a supplementary chargesheet.

“We have received confirmation from the CBI that Roy Chowdhury was not their special counsel. Nor was he a member of the state’s legal team,” said an officer.

The police during the investigation had found a photograph that showed Roy Chowdhury standing at a podium with “BRICS” written on it. BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Roy Chowdhury had purportedly told police that he was part of a government of India team sent to a BRICS conclave.
