Two men have been arrested in connection with the bombing outside Khanna High School on the morning of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls on Sunday.

Police identified the duo as Imamuddin Ansari and Naushad.

Both Ansari and Naushad are residents of the adjoining Narkeldanga area in north Kolkata and have multiple rioting cases against them with the city police.

Two crude bombs were exploded outside Khanna High School on Beleghata Main Road on Sunday morning around 9.15am.

TMC candidate from Ward 36 — Sachin Singh on Sunday had blamed the opposition parties for trying to terrorise voters, while the other party candidates had complained that it was Singh’s handiwork. Officers of Entally and Beleghata police stations had rushed to the spot. No one was injured and the voting was not disrupted, senior officers in Lalbazar had claimed.

Both have been charged under sections of explosive substances act and for criminal conspiracy.

They have been remanded in police custody till December 27.

Senior officers refused to say if the arrested men had political allegiance.

“We are taking action against whoever was involved irrespective of the political party to which he or she belongs. It does not matter to which party they belong,” said a police officer.
