Hours later, his mother Arati Saha lodged a complaint with the office of deputy commissioner (south suburban division) against officers of Golf Green police station alleging atrocities that led to her son’s death.

Senior officers in Lalbazar refuted the charges and said that they have formed a medical board to probe the cause of the death.

“The doctors will be present during the post-mortem,” said an officer in Lalbazar. Saha and four others were brought to Golf Green police station on Sunday night based on suspicion and released within 30 minutes.

An officer said, according to the CCTV footage of the police station, he had entered the premises at 10.26pm and was seen walking out at 10.56pm.

The deceased man’s family alleged that Dipankar had been tortured and had several injury marks on him when he had returned home that night.
