St Xavier’s University, New Town, will admit students to its undergraduate programmes on the basis of Plus-II board exam results. Only the admission to BA in mass communication will be determined though an entry test.

It is a departure from last year’s mechanism of selecting students through an online admission test.

Last year, the board exams could not be held because of the pandemic.

The university had decided to introduce the admission tests so the undergraduate candidates were not selected on the basis of internal assessments or home assignments conducted by schools through which Plus-II students were evaluated in absence of an offline board exams.

“This year the board exams have been held and we have to recognise the performance of an undergraduate aspirant at th Plus-II board exam,” said vice-chancellor Father Felix Raj.

“Asking aspirants to write an admission test after appearing for the board exams would amount to putting unnecessary pressure on them.”

Last year, for all five subjects — commerce, management, economics, English and mass communication — applicants were screened only on the basis of online entry tests.

This year for all six subjects (psychology has been introduced this year), applicants would be screened only on the basis of board marks.

The details of the eligibility criteria for admission have been uploaded on the university’s website.

June 18 is the tentative date for the Internet Based Test (IBT) for admission to BA in mass communication.

Online application process is on. The last date to apply is June 10.

Online application for other degree courses will begin soon after the publication of plus-two results, says a notice on the website.
