Several ISC schools in the city have started setting up their laboratories and drawing out plans to divide students into batches for classes and board practical exams.

The practicals are to be conducted between October 25 and February 28, 2022, giving schools a window of four months for the exam.

“We are running a check of the apparatus and chemicals in the science laboratories. The ovens in the home science lab are also being checked. We have to prepare ourselves before we can call our students,” said Bobby Baxter, the principal of Julien Day School Ganganagar.

The lab equipment has been out of use because of the pandemic.

In most schools, the equipment was used last year or in beginning of this year for the practical exams.

“We have drawn out a plan for the practicals so it can be held maintaining all safety protocols. We will have 12 to 18 students per batch depending on the size of the lab,” said Sonali Sen, principal, Delhi Public School New Town.

Sen said for the smaller labs with a capacity of 40 students, they will seat 12. For the bigger ones with a capacity of 60, they will seat 18 students.

Loreto Convent Entally has told teachers that plans have to be drawn up maintaining 6ft distance between two candidates.

Some schools will reopen next week and the final plans will be drafted then.

“We will have to bring students in smaller batches for practical classes and exams. But before we can conduct practicals, we will have to conduct classes and ideally it should be in November,” said Stephen John, acting principal, La Martiniere for Boys.

Schools are waiting for the go-ahead from the state government to reopen campuses so they can start calling the students, several heads said.
