Several private schools will start vaccination of students from Tuesday, some in association with the civic body and some with private hospitals. Students, born in 2007 or earlier, will be allowed on the campus based on the slot they have been provided for vaccination to avoid crowding.
St Xavier’s Collegiate School, South Point High School, The Heritage School, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy will begin vaccination on campus from Tuesday. Schools have either divided the students in batches on the basis of their classes or on the slots available on a particular day.
At Lakshmipat Singhania Academy in southwest Kolkata’s Alipore, 75 students each of classes XI and XII have been given one-and-a-half hour each for the jab.
“On the first day, we kept the vaccination only for 150 students to avoid overcrowding. The students who are left would be given a date later,” said Meena Kak, the director of Lakshmipat Singhania Academy.
Kak said parents accompanying the students would be seated on the ground floor while the children would move to the above floors for the vaccination. At St Xavier’s Collegiate School, the first day is only for students of Class XI and each section has been given a different time period.
There are about 225 students in Class XI.
The school had sent a notice to parents sharing the schedule with them and asking them to carry the Aadhaar card and a photocopy. “Students must wear masks, carry their own sanitiser and come in school uniform (short sleeved shirt to facilitate the vaccination process)...” said the notice.
Several others like the La Martiniere schools, Sushila Birla Girls’ School, Shri Shikshayatan School, Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Indus Valley World School plan to start the vaccination soon.
Some of them have already sent consent forms to parents to get feedback as to how many students would be interested in taking the vaccination in the school.
“We have about 2,000 students who would be eligible for the vaccination and once we get feedback from parents we would know how many vaccine we would require and proceed accordingly,” said Alok Tibrewal, the pro-vice chairman, DPS Ruby Park.
Sushila Birla Girls’ School that has also sent the consent forms said the information was essential for planning the schedule.
“We will have to inform the hospital how many students because they will have to make arrangements for the second dose,” said principal Koeli De.
