A hospital specialising in neurosciences has launched two courses to train therapists to help stroke patients regain mobility.
The Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata, on Friday announced a bachelor’s in physiotherapy and a bachelor’s in occupational therapy.
Both four-and-a-halfyear courses will begin from June this year, said an official of the hospital.
“Physiotherapy aims at improving the general physical condition of a patient. Occupational therapy improves specific functional capabilities for daily activities,” said Suparna Ganguly, director of the neuro-rehabilitation department at the hospital.
“With the rising incidence of stroke patients who suffer from impaired mobility, there is a gap in holistic approaches to rehabilitation. The courses aim to bridge that gap,” he said.
“These programs have been designed in line with the curriculum of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and will be recognised by the same,” the hospital said.
Both courses include a six-month internship.
