The sky was cloudy throughout Friday, leading to a significant drop in the day temperature.

The dip led to a sense of chill among Kolkatans and the woollens were out once again. The Met office has predicted another ‘cold spell’ next week. But that will mean the conventional chill — clear sky throughout the day and a drop in the night temperature.

On Friday, the maximum temperature was 20.9 degrees, five notches below normal. The minimum temperature was 18.2 degrees, four notches above normal. But since most of the day was cloudy and overcast, it felt cold.

There was a drizzle in the afternoon. A trough of low pressure triggered by a western disturbance extending from the west of the country to the east was behind the clouds, said a Met official. The sky is going to clear from Sunday, he said.

“Saturday is also likely to be cloudy. But the sky will start clearing from Sunday,” said a Met official.

“The night temperature is likely to start dipping from Saturday. The day temperature will go up. By the middle of next week, the minimum temperature is tipped to go down significantly,” he added.
