A petty dispute between two neighbours over parking a motorcycle led to an altercation and then a fight with rods and wooden chairs, leaving one of them grievously injured.
Manoj Kumar Singh received 26 stitches on his head.
The incident happened in central Kolkata’s Pathuriaghata Street on Thursday evening.
Police said Manoj Kumar Singh, a resident of Laxmi Narayan Mukherjee Road, runs a computer parts shop on Pathuriaghata Street.
He had a dispute with Subodh Singh, one of his neighbours, over the parking of Subodh’s two-wheeler near his shop, an officer of Jorabagan police station said.
“Manoj Kumar Singh was in his shop when Subodh Singh, who lives on the fifth floor of the same building where the victim has his shop, turned up with some of his associates and attacked him,” said an officer of Jorabagan police station.
Eyewitnesses said Manoj was dragged out of his shop and pinned on the road. He was hit with iron rods, helmets and chairs, leaving him injured on his head.
Manoj was taken to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where his wound was stitched, an officer said.
Manoj lodged a police complaint against Subodh, accusing him and his associates of assaulting him.
An officer said Subodh had lodged a complaint of assault against Manoj on Wednesday. The complaint was related to an altercation between them over parking Subodh’s motorcycle in an open space in front of Manoj’s shop.
Manoj told The Telegraph on Friday evening: “First, I went to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, where I got 26 stitches. I later got myself admitted to Recovery nursing home for treatment.”
The police said Subodh was not found at home when his house was raided on Thursday night.
