Pre-primary and primary students of a city school are learning about the Preamble to the Constitution of India and the significance of equality, justice, liberty, unity and diversity ahead of Republic Day.
The primary students of Mahadevi Birla World Academy are taking a pledge to “respect all religions and beliefs” and the pre primary students through an online presentation have upheld the diversity of the country.
“We, the children of India...will not make any religion more important than any other, and will respect all religions and beliefs and will make sure that all of us: are treated fairly and honestly; are free to think and to act, and to practise a religion or belief of our choice; are equal and are given the same chances to make our lives better; and will encourage among us love and respect for each other, so that we stand united and care for our country; Now give to ourselves this Constitution,” is the oath by students of Classes III, IV and V.
This is from Leila Seth’s book We, The Children of India: The Preamble To Our Constitution that the students have been reading since November as part of knowing the Constitution.
“To understand your country better, knowing the Constitution is an important part and that is what we are teaching our children and they should know the tenets of the Constitution,” said vice-principal Nupur Ghosh.
In an online presentation that is part of the morning assembly the pre-primary students have spoken on justice, equality, unity and liberty.
“They should know about diversity and inclusion and tolerance,” said Ghosh.
Ghosh said the “vision and mission” of the school is to nurture socially responsible citizens.
“They should know about freedom and how with freedom comes responsibility,” she said.
