DPS Howrah

Senior students of DPS Howrah recently took part in a campaign to spread awareness on the preservation and conservation of River Saraswati. The students of Classes VIII to X went to Ankurhati, a bustling area near the school with banners and slogans, talking about how indiscriminate garbage disposal in the river can spread dangerous pollution. The students also cleaned up the area and spread awareness about hazardous waste. Posters and one-on-one interactions were undertaken to make local people more aware of the need to segregate waste and conserve our water resources.

“Right from its inception, our school has been associated with various activities that increase social awareness. We are intent on keeping the Saraswati River alive. Our school is also a participant in the Namani Gange, a Jal Shakti project initiated by the government. Since Saraswati is also the goddess of education, as an educator I strongly believe that we should do everything in our power to preserve the river, which can only be achieved through community awareness,” said principal Sunita Arora.

More than 40 students of Narula Public School, Mogra, took part in a virtual awareness campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5. Poems were recited and some students gave speeches on how they can do their bit to reduce carbon footprints. “This campaign is our annual effort to make our students environmentally conscious. The students need to practise what they preach. So, we encouraged them to plant saplings at home and recycle and reduce watch in their home front. Last year our theme was reducing carbon footprints that made our students very conscious,” said principal Kamalpreet Kaur.

H.M. Education Centre

H.M. Education Centre organised a summer camp for its students on May 19. The aim was to help them learn through some fun and adventure. It also involved extensive learning and self-development through various activities. The tasks up for grabs included drawing, singing, playing musical instruments and many more. The children imbibed various life skills in the process such as leadership qualities, socialising skills and discipline. Many ended up feeling more confident at the end of the session.

The day began with a lecture demo on food, fire and shelter. Thereafter the children were taken on an adventure trip where they were given some basic training on how to set up a tent, light a fire for cooking and make a bonfire. The young learners were given knowledge of certain devices that are used during mountaineering and trekking. The little ones from Laureates of Angels Eden, which is the school’s Montessori wing, also took part in a pool party with a lot of exuberance. The day left them exhausted but fulfilled.

“H.M. Education Centre conducted a summer camp for the students from nursery to Class XII. The kids from Angels’ Eden and the senior students took part in various educational, recreational and cultural activities, which helped them inculcate self-confidence, team spirit and develop physical, psychological and social skills. It was a successful event,” said principal Sonita Roy.

Asian International School

The little ones of the Pre-primary section created craft items to make their mothers feel loved and cherished. The students of Classes II, III, IV and V had created cards full of quotes and notes. They also shared videos on their WhatsApp group. Their efforts went on to melt their mothers’ hearts. “Mothers deserve to be celebrated all year long. This year on Mother’s Day, little ones made their mothers emotional as they painted cards to showcase the purest form of love that exists,” said principal Vijaylaxmi Kumar.

Ruby Park Public School

Ruby Park Public School recently organised a water play activity for Pre-primary students to help them spend some time splashing and frolicking in the water on a hot day. The school also held a summer craft event, so that the kids could learn a few craft skills.

Nursery students poured three colours into three different containers, took out toys from the water tub and put them into an empty one. They developed eye-hand co-ordination through this activity. The little artists also created a beach ball with fingerprinting as their summer craft. LKG students created boats and sailed them on water. The kids’ motor skills and sensory exploration got developed through this. UKG students played Fork and Leaf game, which enhanced concentration and focus. The LKG and UKG students also prepared ice cream as their summer craft to beat the heat. Class I students enjoyed water play activity through scientific concepts, such as what kind of substances are soluble and insoluble in water.

“Children learn best when they are practically doing a task. Such activities encourage students to take an interest in their lessons thereby yielding better teaching-learning outcomes,” said principal Joyeeta Majumdar.
