As part of celebrations surrounding the 70 years of the diplomatic relations between India and Japan, the Japan India Film Festival will be held at Aikatan, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), in Salt Lake from June 24 to 26.
Six critically acclaimed movies — three Indian and three Japanese – will be screened during the three-day film festival, which is open for all.
The Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, Bidhannagar Film Society, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Federation of Film Societies of India have come together to put up the film festival from 4pm each day.
The inauguration will be held on June 24 in presence of Japan consul-general NAKAGAWA Koichi, EZCC director Gouri Basu, Bidhannagar Film Society working president Shubhankar Home and filmmaker Ranjan Ghosh.
“The Japanese films to be screened in the festival portray the daily life, way of thinking, natural beauty and culture of that country. I hope Indians will get more interested in Japan and its culture by watching these films,” said Koichi.
After the inauguration, Kamome Diner (2006), a comedy directed by OGIGAMI Naoko, and Rang Beranger Kori (2018), an anthology of four stories directed by Ranjan Ghosh, will be shown.
On June 25, the drama Shiori (2018) by SAKAKIBARA Yusuke will be screened, followed by In the Land of Poison Woman (2019) by Manju Borah which revolves around the tribal customs of Arunachal Pradesh.
On June 26, the concluding day of the film festival, two films — the action movie Neko Ninja (2017) by WATANABE Takeshi and Stand Up (2019) by Vidhu Vincent — will be screened.
