Till Saturday, the police were yet to arrest any one of the accused.

In her complaint with Narendrapur police station, the woman alleged that the youths barged into her house in a drunken state and assaulted her along with a few of her family members after she protested.

A section of local residents alleged that the group, including a few women, would regularly converge in the field at night and drink in the open. Earlier protests had fallen on deaf ears and the drinking session would continue till late in the night.

The residents claimed they had informed the police on a few occasions but in vain.

“We had told the group to keep away from the field,” said a resident, who said he had informed the police earlier.

“On Thursday, the youths attacked the woman and her family because she would regularly protest their drinking in the open. Her neighbour, a pregnant woman, was also molested.”

The police said based on the woman’s complaint a case of molestation and house breaking under the relevant sections of the IPC had been drawn up.

“There were around four or five persons in the group,” said a senior police officer.
