Many Kolkatans suffering from long power cuts vented their ire on social media, alleging lack of clear communication from the utility.

Arghya Ghosh tweeted at 2.48pm on Tuesday: “CESC is the biggest failure in our state!! Can’t resolve a transformer fault, low voltage and power cut issue in 7 days!! They just give you false hopes! Can’t even contact their customer service either!”

Responding to this tweet, CESC tweeted at 3.42pm: “Dear Sir, We regret the inconvenience caused to you. Our city is facing an unprecedented heat wave condition, resulting in temperatures soaring much beyond normal level.”

A second tweet, at 3.43pm, said: “Our technician team is working on your issue and trying to restore your supply as soon as possible.”

Ghosh posted a counter-tweet two minutes later: “And what are you doing with regarding this heat wave?? Absolutely nothing!! No backup for AC overloads, warning was given way early and CESC was sleeping and still sleeping!”

Ashis Das tweeted at 1.15pm on Tuesday: “Dear CESC, each day power cut off 5 hours and miserable voltage fluctuation... Still you say that you are trying? This is sheer negligence..are we living in ‘90s...Please look into.. We were having high regards on CESC.”

CESC responded to the tweet in seven minutes expressing regret for the inconvenience. “We regret the inconvenience caused to you. Our city is facing an unprecedented heat wave condition, resulting in temperatures soaring much beyond normal levels.”

A minute later, the CESC handle posted another tweet in this conversation thread: “We would request you to please contact us with your Customer Number and Phone number, anytime you have any supply-related issues.”

Another Kolkatan, who uses the Twitter handle @y@n, tweeted at 11.56am on Tuesday: “During this heat wave, you guys have failed to provide services. Again power cut at 11.50am today. If any casualty happens in my house or in my locality, complete responsibility will be on CESC and Govt of WB. You are an expert in giving false promises.”

CESC responded with a tweet at 12.06pm: “Your supply is affected due to High Tension cable fault and our technical team is working on the same and trying to restore at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused.”
