Five state university vice-chancellors met Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday. This made state education minister Bratya Basu term them as “slave VCs”.

Sources close to the minister said, Basu was upset with the fact that these VCs, who last Friday did not allow university registrars to meet him on the topic of expenditure revision, are now meeting the central minister without any hesitation.

Basu posted on X late on Thursday: “5 slave VCs of State-Aided Universities so “authorised” by Mr. Bond (Or Dipak Chat by Swapnakumar?) met a Central BJP Minister today! Hopefully, the Hon’ble Courts are watching! #Tyranny#Bengal Higher Education system destroyed!”

Basu had earlier compared the governor with James Bond and with Dipak Chatterjee, a fictional Bengali detective.

The minister posted the text hours after the five vice-chancellors met Pradhan at a five-star hotel.
