The police said around 12.50pm, close to 40 minutes before the test was to end,
the student had sought permission to go to the washroom.

When she failed to return to her seat even after 10 minutes, school officials
went to look for her and found her inside the washroom in an unconscious
state.

“She had a slash wound on her wrist and was unconscious. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was admitted,” said an officer of Bidhannagar City Police.

Later in the evening, the police said the student was in a “stable” condition.

An official at the school where the incident happened said the wounds were “superficial in nature”.

The student, the school official said, was discharged from the hospital and allowed to go home.
