Only a few cases could be heard during the day.

Apart from the division bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava, proceedings could not take place in the absence of employees and court officers.

After a long battle, it was decided by the state government that high court employees would get an additional basic pay of 6 per cent from January 2020 till a separate pay commission was set up to fix their pay structure.

“The state finance secretary had also assured us the arrears would be disbursed to the employees in installments, which was not paid,” a striking worker said.

Some judges took their seats on time. But proceedings did not take place.

The agitating employees staged a demonstration in front of the main gate of the old high court building.
