A division bench of Calcutta High Court has struck down an order by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay approving the West Bengal Board of Primary Education’s decision to allow candidates, who had been admitted to the DElEd course in the 2020-22 academic session, to take part in the ongoing recruitment process for primary school teachers.

The board in a notification dated September 29, 2022, stated: “TET (Teachers’ Eligibility Test) qualified candidates who are undergoing DElEd (diploma in elementary education)… training… will be given an opportunity to participate in the recruitment process....”

Challenging the validity of the board’s September 29 notice, some candidates had moved a petition before Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay. The judge approved the board’s decision.

The petitioners then moved the division bench headed by Justice Subrata Talukdar. The division bench turned down the order of Justice Gangopadhyay.

A board official said they are going through the details of the order.
