Two doctors of the forensic medicine department of the NRS Medical College and Hospital went to Silver Point School on Wednesday and examined the spot from where Sk. Shan, a 16-year-old Class X student, fell during school hours on Monday.

A police officer attached to the probe said the findings of the forensic experts will play a crucial role in ascertaining the sequence of events that culminated in the teenager’s death.

School officials have told the police that they suspect the boy jumped over the parapet and committed suicide. The family of the deceased has lodged a murder complaint against the principal, vice-principal, class teacher and mathematics teacher.

“The findings of the forensic examination of the spot will be corroborated with the preliminary post-mortem report to ascertain the nature of the fall the victim underwent,” said an officer in Lalbazar.

The doctor who conducted the post-mortem of the victim’s body was called to Kasba police station on Wednesday so his statement could be recorded.

The police said they also examined nine people including teachers and non-teaching staff of the school on Wednesday.

An officer said they had spoken to one school student so far and were likely to examine more students who were present in Shan’s class on Monday. “We are examining the students at their homes. We will examine some more of them for their statements as witnesses,” said the officer.

The police said according to an email sent by the school to Kasba police station on Monday night, Shan had failed to submit a math project following which he was allegedly told by the subject teacher that this would be reported to his father.

“According to the school, Shan allegedly misbehaved with the teacher and was taken to the staffroom to report this to the class teacher,” the officer said.

Shan was allegedly asked to stand outside the staffroom after which he apparently left the spot and was found dead sometime later, lying on the ground floor of the same building.

The police said they had found CCTV footage that showed Shan standing
outside the staffroom holding his ears. The school has denied having told Shan to hold his ears.

The boy was found with multiple fractures all over his body’s right side suggesting that he landed on his right.
