Bid to overtake results in crash near Raj Bhavan

Traffic on Government Place West was disrupted for around 10 minutes on Monday afternoon after a speeding car hit another vehicle in front while trying to overtake, police said.

The accident took place at a spot adjoining the west gate of the Raj Bhavan around 12.30pm. Vehicles on the stretch were heading towards BBD Bag.

A Hyundai Creta hit a Mahindra Xylo in front it, turned halfway and moved towards the Raj Bhavan's boundary wall and then stopped.

The right wheel of the Mahindra Xylo came off in the impact, bringing the vehicle to a sudden halt in the middle of the road. The front fender came off and a portion of it broke.

"No one was injured in the accident. The traffic was briefly disrupted as the incident took place in the middle of the road and vehicles continued to move down the other half of the road," said a police officer.

"The Mahindra Xylo was towed away and the owner of the Hyundai Creta, was taken to police station."

The police said they would check CCTV footage to see how the accident occurred and then draw up a case under relevant sections of law against the driver.
