The bodies were found around 10 am on Monday.

“It seems that the mother and son were facing financial problems,” said an officer of Ultadanga police station.

Police said Mohua’s husband Nepal Chandra Mal died a few years ago leaving behind a lathe factory.

“The mother and son were unable to run the factory properly and had leased it out. Somnath Mal used to work in the same factory. It is learned that they had taken loans which they were unable to repay,” said the officer.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Police said a purported note has been found in which it was mentioned that the time of death (of the mother and son) was between 1.20am and 1.30am.

Cops will analyse the call records of the victims.
