10-year-old killed on the service road off EM Bypass

A 10-year-old boy playing on the service road off EM Bypass near the PC Chandra Gardens died in a road accident on Saturday afternoon.

Police said Mohammad Hossain Alam, a resident of Topsia Road, was taken to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The accident happened around 1pm when Alam was playing along the service road, not far from his house, his family has told the police. The service road is close to the landing of Ambedkar Bridge, near Science City.

“Family members said Alam had suddenly run towards the middle of the service road when a truck was approaching. Before anyone could react, the vehicle hit the child and left him in a pool of blood,” said an officer of Pragati Maidan police station.

The truck driver was arrested and has been booked under IPC sections related to causing death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving.

Biker injured on Parama

A 27-year-old motorcyclist was injured on the Parama flyover on Saturday morning.

Police said Raunak Roy, a resident of GD Block in Salt Lake, was riding throughthe flank that connects the

AJC Bose Road flyover and the Parama flyover around 8.15am when he apparently lost balance and the vehicle skidded.

Roy was taken to a private hospital on EM Bypass with multiple injuries.

Officers of the traffic department said Roy was wearing a helmet.
