Eight must-watch Bengali films for you

The Telegraph spotlights star-studded Tollywood flicks from SVF that are set to release this year

On Sunday, SVF Entertainment announced the theatrical release dates of eight upcoming films of 2022. The bouquet of films features some of the biggest names of the industry such as Srijit Mukherji, Mimi Chakraborty, Anirban Bhattacharya, Arindam Sil, Abir Chatterjee, Arjun Chakrabarty, Ishaa Saha, Dhrubo Banerjee, Madhumita Sarcar, Anirban Chakrabarti, Indrani Haldar, Sandip Ray, Vikram Chatterjee and many more.

Kuler Achaar

Kuler Achaar is a captivating family drama that tells the story of a middle-class family where the daughter-in-law is determined not to change her surname after marriage. With the ensemble cast of Madhumita Sarcar, Vikram Chatterjee, Indrani Haldar and Neel Mukherjee, Kuler Achaar hits theatres on June 3.

Byomkesh

Arindam Sil’s fourth Byomkesh is based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s incomplete story Bishupal Bodh that will bring back the iconic Byomkesh Bakshi portrayed by Abir Chatterjee on the big screen. Sohini Sarkar will play the character of Satyabati once again while Suhotra Mukhopadhyay will be seen as Byomkesh’s favourite companion Ajit. Slated to release on August 11, this one is Byomkesh Bakshi’s expedition to solve a murder mystery.

Ballavpurer Roopkotha

Anirban Bhattacharya makes his feature film directorial debut with Ballavpurer Roopkotha. All set to release on October 21, Ballavpurer Roopkotha is a quirky horror-comedy that revolves around an unconventional story, which will turn Ballavpur Rajbari into a place of chaos with a few people and a 400-year-old ghost.

Hatyapuri

Directed by Sandip Ray, Satyajit Ray’s Hatyapuri is a Feluda thriller where the awesome threesome’s vacation is upturned when they discover an unidentified dead body on the beach. Feluda being inquisitive as always, goes on a search to unravel the mystery behind the murder. A web of dark truth is revealed as Feluda, Topshe and Jatayu dig deep into the case. The Feluda adventure will hit theatres on December 23.

Khela Jawkhon

The psychological thriller Khela Jawkhon, starring Mimi Chakraborty, Arjun Chakrabarty and Susmita Chatterjee, tells the story of Urmi and Sagnik who lost their only child in a horrific car accident. Soon after this, Urmi is haunted by the memory of her dead child and strange visions of violence which have no semblance to her life keep plaguing her sleep. Strange events start to happen around her. With many twists and turns, Khela Jawkhon, directed by Arindam Sil, releases on July 1.

X=Prem

Srijit Mukherji’s X=Prem is a unique romantic journey of four very different individuals connected with one string. Scheduled to release on May 13, the film deals with the story of a couple who go through various challenges and turmoil in life resulting from an unexpected turn of events. The film, starring Arjun Chakrabarty, Anindya Sengupta, Madhurima Basak, and Shruti Das, tells a story of human emotions and selflessness of love.

Karna Subarna’er Guptodhon

After the 2021 blockbuster Golondaaj, Dhrubo Banerjee brings back a thrilling adventure story featuring Sonada, Jhinuk and Abir in the third film of the Guptodhon franchise, Karna Subarna’er Guptodhon. Sonada will be back on the screen on September 30 for a quest to unearth one of the greatest treasures Bengal has ever known.

The Eken

The Eken is a dynamic mystery thriller where the sequence of events will constantly challenge Eken Babu’s intelligence and observation skills in his hunt to find a missing photograph and a murderer. Anirban Chakrabarti will reprise the role of Eken Babu while Debasish Mondal and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay will be seen in prominent roles in the movie along with Paayel Sarkar. The Eken is ready to hit theatres on April 14.
