The result is a show that's both terrifying and thrilling, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. So, if you're looking for a show that's sure to keep you up at night, Stranger Things is a great choice. If you’re already a fan of the series, here are six other Netflix shows to check out…

Locke and Key

Netflix

In the Netflix fantasy horror series Locke and Key, the three Locke siblings move to their father’s family home with their mother, after their father is brutally murdered.

As they explore the sprawling mansion and its many secrets, they find a set of keys that are able to open doorways to other dimensions. However, as they come to learn, the keys come at a great cost. There are supernatural elements, travelling through time, and much more. The show is equal parts suspenseful and thrilling, with a touch of humour and heart.

The show is coming back for season three, rumoured to be its last.

The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor

Netflix

Directed by Mike Flanagan, these two mini-series are part of an anthology called The Haunting, created by Mike Flanagan. The Haunting of Hill House is loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson and follows the Crain family.

It spans two timelines, starting from events in 1992, when the family moved to a haunted mansion, Hill House, and the present day, when five surviving Crain siblings return to their childhood home to confront the ghosts of their past. The award-winning show was acclaimed by critics for its acting, directing, writing, cinematography, production values, and its faithfulness to Jackson’s novel.

The second season in 2020, titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, has much of the same cast, but an entirely new story adapted from the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It follows a similar non-linear narrative following the events after an American au pair is hired for the children living in the English countryside manor of the same name.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Netflix

This Netflix show is based on the Archie comics series of the same name and adapted from Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. It follows the 16-year-old Sabrina Spellman as she struggles to reconcile her half-witch, half-mortal heritage.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, however, is darker and more mature than the Archie comics series, and it deals with darker topics like Satanism and the occult. The show has been praised for its strong female characters, its inclusive cast and its willingness to tackle difficult subjects.

Shadowhunters

The show is based on the best-selling book series The Mortal Instruments, and it follows the adventures of a group of half-human, half-angel vigilantes called Shadowhunters.

While the books were very popular, the movies were not, and many fans of the series were hesitant about the show. But the OTT series gained much acclaim and features a talented cast and amazing special effects. If you are looking for a new show to watch, Shadowhunters is definitely worth checking out.

Dark

Netflix

Discovering a new show on Netflix can be both exciting and daunting. With so many options available, it can be hard to know where to start. However, if you're looking for a show that is both captivating and thought-provoking, you should check out Dark.

Set in the fictional town of Winden, Germany, it follows the residents as they grapple with the aftermath of a child's disappearance. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that there is much more to Winden than meets the eye. With its complex plot and fascinating characters, Dark will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Netflix

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a Netflix original series based on the series of books of the same name. The story showcases the lives of the three Baudelaire children, who are orphaned after their parents die in a fire, and then sent to live with their distant relative, Count Olaf, who turns out to be a cruel and manipulative man. He is only interested in the children for their inherited fortune, and repeatedly attempts to steal it from them. Along the way, the Baudelaires meet a variety of interesting characters and discover secrets about their parent's lives.

Neil Patrick Harris is noteworthy as Count Olaf, and while the show has a lighter vein than Stranger Things, it will keep you hooked for its mystery, intrigue and bouts of humour. Throughout its run, A Series of Unfortunate Events was applauded for its writing, production and authenticity to the original material.
