Be it your annual iftar party, or an Id party post-Ramazan, setting up the space is always a must, and can be a hassle if you’re doing it yourself.

The Telegraph and Saima Wohra of The Custom Krafts got together at The Backyard, to set up an iftar/Id decor, that you can take notes from to amp up yours.

Let’s begin.

THE BACKDROP

With social media around, having a photo corner is a must. Wearing those gorgeous outfits and not posing for them against a backdrop made especially for Id doesn’t seem to fit right, does it? Here, we have backdrops made out of MDF and decorated with floral arrangements.

At home, you can do a simple thing like using neon signage against a plain solid colour wall or a nice wallpapered background and put in a floral arrangement. You can even use cardboard cut-outs and spray paint them in colours of your choice.

“It was a delight to set up for Ramazan and Id. We try to keep things as simple as possible so that the readers can easily replicate them, and modify them according to availability and preference. Fresh flowers, candles and good lighting go a long way,” said Saima Wohra, founder, The Custom Krafts.

LOW SEATING:

A cosy low seating area to unwind and celebrate with your friends and family while feasting on delicacies will serve to be the best bet. In the picture, we have a low table setup on a carpet with different-sized cushions. These can easily be found at home, and you can mix and match different designs, patterns, and colours. The beautiful food arrangement done by The Backyard, adds to the beauty. We have done minimal flower arrangements around the candle stands and mainly focused on the food.

Light is going to play the main role, hence you have to make sure to keep it mellow- use bulb string lights or fairy lights to create the vibe.

Use a long rectangular tray to create the ultimate food board. Wooden platters are a great way to also serve your treats and these kebabs and other savoury treats look decadent. It’s all about paying attention to detail. Use exotic desserts, such as this Kunafa (a Middle Eastern cheese and vermicelli-based baked treat), circled around with dates that add to the vibe of the event, and even taste phenomenal.

KID’S CORNER

A designated play+pray area for kids during Ramazan and Id Day is not only going to encourage them to pray but also add an aesthetic photo corner and keep them busy.

A beautiful white canopy serves as the base, you can even use a teepee set. We have added an acrylic bunting and hung it outside the canopy along with some planters and posters for decorative purposes. We have used praying mats in bright hues and educational books with attractive covers to add some colours to the entire setup.

TABLE DECOR

A fresh floral arrangement at the dining table along with some candle stands gives an elegant look. Here we have used fresh flowers topped with baby’s breath - lots and lots of them. They beautify any flower arrangement. We have added crystal candle stands with LED candles. You can go for brass or any other metal, and those also look exquisite. There are jute mats and simple dining set with a touch of gold for the edge.
