Feel the burn!

A historic heatwave has been sweeping across India. After the hottest March in 122 years, April has dialled up the heat even more, and we don’t even want to know what May has in store!

With eastern India and Bengal falling under the spell, from Mumbai to Medinipur, everyone is feeling the burn, literally.

Meme-making netizens — our open fridge door on a humid day — have arrived with their stellar creations to give us a laugh in this time of distress. From daaber jol to haath pakha, there are ideas to help combat the humidity. The open fridge might not be the best idea though.

Even the pits (or boiling pots) of hell are being touted as a better place to be.

About 15 districts in Bengal have been put on heatwave alert including North 24 Parganas, and the people of Barrackpore are not happy.

Some have even said that the ideal mode of transport in these times should be brought over from Rajasthan.

Even Thanos would have crumbled to dust before he could snap properly.

Is your room becoming an alternative to the fires of Mount Doom? Are hobbits mistaking it for Mordor? Are your rings melting? Worry not, netizens are having the same troubles!

As the meme-masters are saying, if you have successfully made it a few steps outside without burning to a crisp (or popping like corn), it’s a good day for you in Bengal (and most of India).

Bengal’s neighbouring states are faring no better, with many wishing for the return of the Ice Bucket Challenge, or at least the appearance of an ever-lasting ice bath.

There may be a faint silver lining, this time for LPG users, because if reports are to be believed, rotis can now be made on the bonnet of your car. Given the fuel prices, it might actually be a good use for the car.

Glasses of chilled lemonade would be a must-have in this sweltering heat, but given the circumstances, a fridge stocked with cold water will have to do.

We suggest ordering in summer-special drinks or making an aam porar shorbot that you can sip while having a pool party. Or just playing rain-themed songs on full volume hoping the weather gods will hear you.

And for some cheap thrills, see if this recipe actually works:
