Sector V has a new hangout— Eddy’s

The eatery has an open-air space and an indoor lounge with a “strong focus on cocktails and food”

After owning Nocturne, one of the oldest party spots on Shakespeare Sarani for 12 years, Amandeep Singh has launched another outlet — Eddy’s in Sector V. This one, however, is not a nightclub. “I totally wanted to stay away from making another nightclub. I clearly wanted a noon-to-midnight place that will have a lounge that feels like a party place evening onwards because we do have laser lights and moving heads, plus live bands,” said Amandeep who has Sourav Saraf as his co-partner for the project.

Divided into two sections, Eddy’s has an open-air space and an indoor lounge with a “strong focus on cocktails and food”. “In a nightclub people mostly would come late after pre-drinking elsewhere, so the scope of cocktails moving fast at the bar was less. With this place I wanted a strong alcohol menu with a wide range of food options like Pan Asian, Indian, mostly tandoor, sushis and a few of Eddy’s Kitchen (a cloud kitchen that opened this year) signatures,” he added.

The vibe inside the lounge is brilliant; the walls are hand-painted and give a forest vibe. The seating is comfortable; the bar is done in a minimalist way yet catches the eye.

The Telegraph took a walk-through of the place and here’s what we liked...

What: Eddy’s

Where: GP Block, Sector V, Salt Lake (ground floor of The Meridian building)

When: Opens June 10

Timings: Noon to midnight

Meal for two: Rs 2,000 with alcohol

Once you enter the 4,000sq ft lounge, you will feel a strong East European vibe with hand-painted walls, warm lighting, faces of kings and queens lending a colonial look. “Eddy’s is inspired by the modern art nouveau style of architecture where major characteristics are highlighted through the huge stained glass windows, curved line forms in terms of arches, nature-oriented motifs in the form of trees on walls, animals print on cushions along with broken tile mosaic flooring. We’ve played along with different moods of lights with table lamps, hanging lights to give a different vibe during the day for brunch and at night to lounge,” said Karishma Mehta, who has done the interiors of the space.

Music plays a vital part at Eddy’s. There is a dedicated DJ console and a performance stage that will see live bands playing on Thursdays and Sundays. “People in Calcutta love music and live bands, so we will cater to that twice a week. The DJ will also amp up the mood party mood,” said Amandeep.

Once you enter Eddy’s you will first come across this partial open-air space that is beautifully done with cane lanterns hanging from a high ceiling, white cane seating that comprises swing chairs with animal-motif cushions that blend perfectly with the greenery this zone has. The 60-seater space is equipped with mist fans to comfort you from the heat. The section houses a shisha station that has herbal and fruity flavours.
