On November 22, Calcutta Club in association with Senorita Angel hosted a Curated Wine Journey around The Old World & New World Wines. The evening focused on an exquisite pairing of wine and dishes. Anusua Das, chairperson of Wine and Cigar Committee, opened the evening while the rest of the event was hosted by club member and wine connoisseur Smarajit Mitra.

Mitra took the audience through the processes of making wines, explained the origins and meaning of New World and Old World wines and had a bubbling interaction with the guests. Fifty wine lovers were seen swirling, sniffing and sipping the four different wines.

Wine and cigar committee president Anusua Das said, “Today was a celebration of the finer things in life. It’s been an exploration of the symphony that happens when the right wine meets the perfectly paired food and the unique culinary delights that elevate the experience to new heights. We wanted to create an atmosphere where the sum is truly greater than its parts, where each element enhances the other, leading to an experience that lingers long after the last drop is sipped.”

The evening was made interactive and knowledgeable by Smarajit Mitra, who said, “Today was all about good wines, company and relationships and at Calcutta Club we value that. Pinto Grigio was my favourite wine from the lot.”

The four wines tried throughout the evening were Senorita Sauvignon Blanc (old), Senorita Cabernet Sauvignon (new), Just Roberto Chardonnay (new) and Just Roberto Pinto Grigio (old). They were paired with Prawn Linguine, Spicy Honey Glazed Grilled Pork, Bekti in Cranberry Ginger Mustard Sauce and Roast Lamb with Smoked Orange BBQ Sauce, respectively. There were vegetarian options too. The New World wines were from Chile while the Old World wines were from Italy.
