The Ladies Study Group Charitable Trust hosted their annual award ceremony on April 25 at the ITC Royal Bengal, followed by an engaging chat with chief guest Sanjiv Mehta, CEO and managing director of Hindustan Unilever Limited. The fireside chat was moderated by the deputy editor of Network 18 Moneycontrol, Shweta Punj.
The Ladies Study Group Charitable Trust Annual Award for 2022 was presented to Kolkata Swasthya Sankalp whose aim is to run low-cost dialysis for financially weaker sections, avoidable blindness through door-to-door screening, nutritional programs for dialysis patients and geriatric persons. The Shanti Devi Khaitan Award has been funding the training of initially three girl students and this year only two (because the third student has completed her course) at the Woodlands College of Nursing. In the chat hour, Shweta Punj conversed with Sanjiv Mehta about his journey of building HUL (Hindustan Unilever Limited) and how his company has contributed to India’s growth, tips on how he remains so humble, skills, his early life and many more motivational aspects of life.
“We cannot help all but all can help somewhere. I on behalf of the Ladies Study Group have strongly felt the need to support renal patients, who face a challenge every day for their survival. The economics of a renal patient is always a steep downward curve when on dialysis and little is known about the pain and suffering. Acknowledging and awarding Kolkata Swasthya Sankalp was very satisfying. Sanjiv Mehta the king of FMCG aptly was the chief guest who believes in qualities of compassion, humility and to do something for society even through business,” said Sucheta Merh, president of Ladies Study Group.

On asked how he kept himself motivated in today’s world where everyone is having a burnout, Mehta said, “Let me first talk about purpose. There are two days in our life, the first when we are born and the second day when we realise why were we born, that’s where purpose comes in. The important thing is you have to be a learner your entire life. You have to be a student your entire life. One of the things we look for in a manager or a leader is curiosity. People should have the hunger to learn. The only way to reinvent yourself is to learn, unlearn and relearn.”
