A letter of administration cannot be granted in favour of a society registered under the Societies Registration Act although the society can be a beneficiary in a will — on the demise of one Ratan Lal who executed a will in favour of Jain Bal Ashram, registered under the Societies Registration Act.The ashram submitted an application before the court for grant of a letter of administration. The petition was contested by Illachi Devi and on her death by her legal representatives. The Delhi High Court held that grant of administration in favour of a society is permissible. On appeal, the Supreme Court sent back the matter to the high court with liberty to amend the petition for grant of administration in favour of persons nominated by the society for carrying out the wishes of the testator. The business of dealing in captive birds specified in Schedule IV of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, is not permitted when such birds are procured by trapping. The licensing authority refused to grant licence to a dealer for carrying on business of breeding birds in captivity as the birds were specified in the Schedule IV of Wildlife Act. The Allahabad High Court directed the licensing authority to grant the licence. The Supreme Court set aside the judgment of the high court on the grounds that when the hunting of birds specified in Schedule IV is prohibited, no person can be granted a licence to deal with such birds in captivity which are procured by hunting which would also include trapping. An account-holder filed a complaint before the Consumer Forum claiming that the bank had wrongly debited large amounts of money in its account by honouring cheques with altered figures and forged signatures. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum returned the complaint observing that the case involves acute dispute as service of experts is required for proof of signature and writing in numerous documents.
