Q: I am 25 years old. I have been working as assistant manager in Reliance Industries for two years in the security department. I have decided to do executive MBA from Wellingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai. I also intend to do a SAP course in HR. Do you think I am on the right path?
Arindam Chakravarty
A: It is difficult for me to say whether you are on the right path as you have not mentioned your qualifications. Prior to upgrading your skills, you must ensure that you have relevant experience in HR. MBA in HR is considered a valid qualification. But it would be advisable to gain experience as HR manager before opting for a SAP course in HR.
Q:I am 21 years old and pursuing masters in psychology. I want to specialise in organisational behaviour. I worked in an organisation for three months after graduation as academic counsellor. I am currently pursuing MA. I also intend to do a diploma in HR. However, it is not possible for me to pursue MBA due to some problems. I want to know whether I would get suitable jobs with a postgraduation degree?
Dishari Gupta
A:Yes, with an MA in psychology you can get suitable jobs in the HR department of any good organisation. But you should join a company which provides ample scope for learning. Many organisations pay only lip service to learning and development.
Another viable alternative is to join an HR consulting firm whose core consulting focuses on organisational behaviour and organisational development. It will help you gain valuable experience and later, if you want to work in an industry, this experience will provide you a boost as you can leverage on it considerably.
Q:I have passed MBA in human resources in 2006 and have one and half years’ experience in the field. Now I have decided to do a course in SAP. Will this course be beneficial for me? What is the eligibility for enrolling in SAP course?
Samarpita Dutta
A: You have the right academic qualifications and relevant work experience to pursue a SAP course in HR. There are many recognised institutes that provide SAP training. You will have to check that out. The Internet is a useful resource for this purpose. Make sure that you undertake training only from a recognised institute.
Q:I am 24 years old and a commerce graduate. I have been working in an export company as export co-ordinator since 2004. I want to leave this job as early as possible because I do not see any future here. I have no experience in accounts. I am doing the CBA (Complete Business Accountant) course from IIJT, which will take another eight to 10 months to complete. Will I be able to get a job as assistant accountant?
Bansal Yadav
A: Getting an accountant’s job should not be difficult for you. All you need to do is activate your contacts, network and get referrals of private accountancy firms where learning opportunities are high.
