Q: I am a BCom graduate. Would a diploma in banking from the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance help me get a job?

Suprabho Sarkar

A: A diploma would definitely help you get a job in a private bank but only if you do well in the banking exams.

Q: I am a biology graduate and have a PG diploma in business management. I started my career in a car dealership. But due to the recession I shifted to the computer and jewellery sector. Would I find it difficult to move back to the automobile sector after a three-year gap? Would it be a good idea to focus on customer service in that sector?

Kallol Baitalik

A: Your field is customer service or customer relationship management. So you can work in any industry that has a requirement for customer relationship managers. Working in different sectors will only make your CV stronger. Focus on customer relationship management as a career.

Q: I am a 21-year-old graduate in English pursuing GNIIT. Should I opt for BSc (IT), or a degree from NIIT? Or should I prepare for MAT?

Sudeshna Das

A: What you would opt depends on what you want to pursue as a career. If you are looking at a business management option, you should appear for MAT and other such qualifying exams. If you want to be in IT, you can opt for an NIIT degree.

Q: I passed Plus Two last year. I want to be a film critic. What course should I do?

Supriyo Adhikari

A: There aren’t any specific ones but a course in journalism can be of help. Journalism is taught at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai; IIMC, Delhi and Dhenkanal; Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad; Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune; Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media, Bangalore; and the University of Calcutta. Look for institutes that offer film history and filmmaking process as additional subjects.
