Jamshedpur, July 12: When a Jamshedpur resident turns the pages of the city directory after Diwali, he or she would get much more than telephone numbers.

Around the festival of lights, when the 2008 Jamshedpur Yellow Pages releases, it would also double up as a comprehensive tourist guide for visitors and residents. A step taken by Shadow Publications, a Jamshedpur-based publishing house, would give the yellow pages a new look.

Complete attention would be given to tourism development and mining and industrial units in and around the city. “In our experience of releasing the yellow pages for the five five-odd years, we realised that people are not happy with just telephone numbers. They want more information. So we decided to include several new sections from the coming year,” said N.K. Banerjee, consultant at Shadow Publications, which released its first edition of the directory this summer, prior to which this group was part of another concern.

So, the new-look directory would contain details and illustrative pictures of tourist locations like the Dimna lake, the Dalma range, Jubilee Park, locations around National Highway 33, highway resorts, and restaurants in separate sections.

“This section would cover Jamshedpur and surrounding places like Ghatshila, Galudih and the adjoining districts of Seraikela, Kharwasan, and Chaibasa,” added Banerjee. A 12-member team is working on the project which would have bright pictures of locations with detailed information beneath them and a comprehensive reader-friendly map.

“Though we had a map with the earlier edition, it was not good enough. People asked for details about Adityapur or towards Jadugoda and Ghatshila, so we decided to expand our range,” said Jai Kumar, the firm’s partner.

The other area likely to get a wider display would be small industrial units, especially the sponge and iron units close to Chandil leading up to Keonjhar, Orissa .

“This sector is one of the major revenue earners for entrepreneurs, so detailed information would be helpful,” added Banerjee.
