Dhanbad, March 4: Books of Premchand, Vishnu Nagar, Bhishm Sahni, Bharat Dogra and Bhartendu Harishchandra proved to be the most sought-after items on the inaugural day of the two-day book exhibition at Zilla Parishad grounds today.

Organised by the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), the exhibition is being organised simultaneously at Dhanbad and Bokaro. Fair executive member of JEPC Gyan Ranjan Sinha, who is also the co-ordinator of the fair, said: “The exhibition was intended to develop a reading culture among students aged 6-14.”

Besides students, a large number of teachers of government schools were also seen procuring books from the fair today as Rs 200 has been allotted to each primary school to procure books. Middle schools have been provided Rs 400 for procuring books.

Altogether, four stalls of different publications — including Eklavya Prakashan, Rajkamal Prakashan, Krishna Prakashan Private Limited and Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti — were put up during the fair.

The co-ordinator of Eklavya Prakashan Stall, Devendra Pandey, said that their books have been prepared to develop reading habits among students. And they have used a large number of pictures and symbols in the book to make the reading process fun.

Books of Eklavya Prakash, available in 44 titles, have been divided into three sets of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 300 according to their prices. Popular picks from their publication included Kuch Kuch Banana, Billi Ke Bachche and Akkad Bakkad.

A tour of the fair revealed that a large number of books on science and maths were also on display.

Publication group Rajkamal and Krishna Prakash sold many copies of Chachi Ka Faisla, Sabse Accha Ped, Dudh Ka Dam, Char Anmol Baatein, Birbal Ki Kahaniyaan and Chiria Rani.

The most preferred items in their stall, however, were Premchand’s Idgah and Kafan, which were widely sold during the first day.

The Rajkamal Prakashan books were available in the range of Rs 16 to Rs 65. Book lovers also thronged the stall put up by the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti.
