Ranchi, Dec. 5: Student members of Ajsu barged into the chamber of RU vice chancellor Ramesh Pandey this morning and hurled abuses at him over a rejected candidature in the run-up to the December 19 union polls in 18 colleges.

Ajsu supporters later clashed with ABVP members at Ranchi College in Morabadi.

The returning officer of Ranchi College recently rejected the candidature of Ajsu member Ravindra Mahto for the post of president. This, Ajsu claimed, was partisan politics and directly accused VC Pandey of backing ABVP, the student wing of BJP, during the hour-long gherao from 11am.

An upset Pandey denied the allegations, saying two other candidates - an independent and another owing allegiance to ABVP - had also been dropped from the fray. "Students misbehaved with me and other university officials. One of my men has tendered his resignation," the VC said, adding that he too was mulling the same.

Later in the afternoon, a clash broke out between Ajsu and ABVP at Ranchi College, prompting SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi to direct Lalpur police station to lodge an FIR.
