VBU: Getting ready |
Hazaribagh, July 16: After a successful international seminar, Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) is now gearing up to host another workshop — this time on tribal culture.
The university will hold the three-day seminar, Interstate Tribal Culture Exchange Programme, in March next year. Vice-chancellor Arvind Kumar said that Union human resource development minister Kapil Sibal would inaugurate the event.
A committee was formed today to thrash out the details. Chaturbhuj Sahu, the head of the postgraduate department of anthropology, VBU, will lead the panel.
After attending the first meeting of the committee this afternoon, Kumar said: “Jharkhand is the home of tribals and so, VBU has taken this initiative to organise a national event on them. The seminar will throw light on different primitive tribal groups and their varied culture. The speakers will not only focus on tribal life, but will also suggest ways to conserve them.”
Experts from across the country working for tribals would be invited to participate in the event, he added.
According to the vice-chancellor, the VBU students had learnt a lot from the international seminar that was held last month. “The seminar on tribals will be as informative. Students will get an opportunity to know about these ancient inhabitants in detail. Within fifteen days, books on tribals would be available in the central library so that students can upgrade their knowledge,” Kumar said.
He claimed the aim behind such programmes was to bring qualitative change in the students. “I want my students to gain maximum knowledge so that they can be on a par with their counterparts of Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Aligarh Muslim University,” he said.
