Jamshedpur: The syndicate meeting at Kolhan University in Chaibasa on Tuesday approved the names of five professors who will be assigned as principals to various affiliated and constituent colleges.
Professors Amar Singh, Mudita Chandra, K.N. Pradhan, S.P. Mahalik and Ashok Akela had already earned the approval of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and were waiting for a final nod from the syndicate. Their deputation will be announced soon.
So far, the university had only two commissioned principals - Shukla Mahanty, who is now vice chancellor, and G.P. Rajwar, principal of Singhbhum College in Chandil.
The syndicate meeting was chaired by Mahanty in the presence of pro-vice chancellor Ranjit Kumar Singh and other varsity officials.
"This was a long-standing demand. Most college heads are temporary appointees. With permanent principals, colleges can improve in terms of academics and administration," said A.K. Jha, varsity spokesperson.
The syndicate also proposed a budget of Rs 211 crore for the next financial year (2018-19), besides clearing a budget of Rs 5 lakh for the third senate meeting.
The university's senate elections were conducted on Monday at its various colleges. For the single post of non-teaching representative, Vishambhar Yadav was chosen as senate member out of 415 candidates.
"The senate meeting will take place on November 10. Teacher representatives have also been selected along with nominations from the governor," Jha added.
