Jamshedpur, April 28: Ranchi University plans to introduce weekly seminars and educational tutorials in the syllabus in all postgraduate departments from the next academic session.

The decision has been taken to make postgraduate students proficient in facing interview boards. Sources said modalities for introduction of seminars and tutorials have been completed and the final notification will be issued in a few days.

University vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha said the issue surfaced during interaction sessions with students, especially those doing their postgraduation, where they gave their opinions.

“Students usually do not get the chance to speak and interact on topics they have covered in their academic syllabus. In the practical field, they need to have not only technical but communicational skills as well,” he said.

“Therefore, we have decided to conduct seminars and tutorials on a weekly basis for the final year students. They have been made a part of the syllabus so that students attend them seriously,” said Kushwaha.

The students will be informed in advance about the topic of seminar each week so that they get time to prepare.

A team of university experts of the particular department will also participate in the seminar, he said. These open interactive sessions will help students overcome their inhibitions and improve their communication skill, said Kushwaha.

He that to make sure that every student participate in the seminar and educational tutorial the university is trying to get an approval from the academic council so that some marks is allocated in for this.

“At times students also try to avoid speaking at public place but if these seminars and tutorials will carry marks they will be forced to take part in it,” he said adding “ though it may look like imposing an idea on students but our aim is to bring out the fear of facing interview and public gatherings.”
