Jamshedpur: Aspiring undergraduate students of Kolhan University, who filled up their forms on the debut-making Chancellor Portal ( www.jharkhanduniversities.nic.in) this year, can start seeking admission in colleges from July 23.
The Chancellor Portal will also send the merit list to respective constituent colleges.
Kolhan University proctor and spokesperson A.K. Jha said the colleges would be responsible for the physical verification of all student documents when they approach colleges for admission.
Since the merit list has been prepared based on data fed by students themselves while filling up their application forms, physical verification might throw up fresh anomalies, Jha warned.
"Colleges will verify all documents and then take admissions. If a student has sought admission in honours and has fed his marks accordingly, his/her name might appear in merit list but it would be rejected at the college level if physical verification reveals any discrepancy," Jha said.
The application process on debut-making Chancellor Portal began on May 16 and ended on July 16.
University officials said around 23,200 students have applied for admission this year of which only 1,500 were through the offline process.
After a quick admission process, classes are expected to start from August first week. According to Kolhan University, the application has been 17 per cent more compared to last year, a good sign for higher education in the tribal belt.
MEd fees slashed
In a vocational cell meeting on Tuesday, Kolhan University also decided to lower MEd fees by Rs 10,000 per semester for all categories, general, OBC, ST and SC.
From now, general and OBC students will pay Rs 50,000 per semester. ST and SC students will pay Rs 40,000 per semester.
