Jamshedpur, April 12: Malabar United and Md. Sporting emerged winners in the AIFF second division I-League qualifying matches held at separate venues today.

While the former outclassed Danzong Boys Football Club (4-1) at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Md. Sporting outplayed Josco Football Club (2-1) at Keenan Stadium.

Nwokwu Michael’s brace turned out to be the silver lining in Malabar’s outing in the morning session of the tournament. The quick-footed midfielder displayed fine skills to pump in goals in the 22nd and 28th minutes.

Michael had no difficulty in converting a cross from the centre while drawing first blood and later sliding in a crisp pass from the left flank to put Malabar on a strong pedestal. Samjad U. stretched the lead for Malabar in the 34th minute while Sajan A. made it 4-0 in the 45th minute. Malabar led with a handsome margin at the breather.

Danzong had a forgettable show throughout the match with few scoring attempts. But for Patrick Arol Enondji, who scored the consolation goal in the 89th minute, the outfit would have come out sans any success.

In another match, Md. Sporting had to make extra efforts to defeat Josco, which put up a spirited performance.

Kartik Kisku brought smiles in the sporting camp when he struck as early as the sixth minute of the opening half.

However, the smile did not last long as Jeribe Kelechi found the equaliser in the 25th minute.

The second half saw both sides, especially Md. Sporting, make serious attempts to score goals. However, some solid defending from either side prevented any goals from being scored.

But Md. Sporting managed to emerge winners at the fag end of the game thanks to Dipendu Biswas who slid in a goal during injury time.
