Jamshedpur, April 3: Two persons were injured when revellers, celebrating Team India’s victory in the World Cup, clashed at Jugsalai last night.
One of the victims, Mohammed Mustafa, sustained injuries on the chest and lower abdomen. He was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital and later released after treatment. Another person, Mubaraque Ali, received only minor injuries.
Police have registered a complaint against Md Sukhat, Md Sahib and Md Kallu, all residents of Purani Bustee Road in Jugsalai.
According to the complaint, Mustafa, who is the BJP’s district minority cell president, was watching the match at his party office on Purani Bustee Road. When M.S. Dhoni scored the winning six, Mustafa and his supporters started bursting crackers to celebrate the occasion.
At that moment, the three accused turned up and started abusing Mustafa and his supporters.
Mustafa said when he objected to the unprovoked act, the latter snatched the crackers from the victim’s hand and burst it inside the party office. At this, Mustafa informed the police, who came to the spot and settled the matter by talking to both sides.
Later, the accused went to Mustafa’s house, dragged him out and started thrashing him.
The attackers also thrashed a neighbour who tried to intervene. Having assaulted both the victims, the accused fled the spot.
Officer in charge of Jugsalai police station Vijay Kumar confirmed the complaint.
“A section of residents of Purani Bustee Road had roughed up a BJP functionary last night. I am looking into the matter seriously,” said Kumar.
Mustafa, when asked, said “Sahib, Kallu and Sukhat, who had assaulted him were all the Pakistan supporters and have even threatened me with dire consequences if I express my pleasure over India’s victory in any game in the future even.”
