Ranchi, Aug. 7: Ranchi University vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha is contemplating a large-scale transfer of its teaching staff.

Kushwaha, to end his tenure in December this year, said during a meeting with a delegation of newly constituent colleges on Saturday that he would soon post many teachers, including those of newly constituent colleges, at postgraduate departments and colleges in Ranchi.

The vice-chancellor said since all teachers will be keen on coming to the capital, he would ask for three options of which at least two choices have to be for colleges outside Ranchi. He said he would post only those teachers at postgraduate departments who have done good research work, a member of the delegation said.

The delegation had called on the vice-chancellor to attract his attention towards non-payment of salary to the teachers of newly constituent colleges for the past five months. The teachers were getting salaries when their appointments were in dispute, but ever since the university recommended their regularisation to the state government, they have stopped getting salaries. Though Kushwaha assured to look into the matter and ensure early release of the pending salaries, his statements on impending transfer has shocked many, the member said.

Kushwaha was not available for comments, but a senior professor of the university said the regularisation of the newly constituent college teachers was subject to the approval of the state government and their transfer should not be effected before the government regularises their services.

Another professor said the vice chancellor has already deputed and transferred many teachers of newly constituent colleges who have the ?right connections? to PG departments and in colleges of Ranchi in the recent past.

The professor said all want to be either at PG department, Ranchi College or in Ranchi Women?s College. Those who do not get these postings lobby for other colleges of Ranchi and it is alleged that money and connections play a vital role in postings of teachers in university and colleges as well, he said.

The professor wondered why Kushwaha was talking about transfers, but not about the commitments he made earlier. ?He should be asked why the university did not display the answer sheets of the toppers this year or what is the progress to his promise to Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat that Ranchi University students would take up ?each-one-teach-one? scheme on a large-scale basis,? he said.
