Jamshedpur: After a gap of more than six months, the bi-weekly Tatanagar-Mumbai Antyodaya Express was back on the tracks on Sunday.
The train, which left Tata-nagar at 9.55pm, will reach Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in the Maharashtra capital around the same time on Monday.
Introduced in March 2017, the train was cancelled by South Eastern Railway on November 27 for maintenance of the station's washing line.
"Now that the renovation is complete, SER has decided to re-introduce the express train. It will follow the same schedule," said Bhaskar, a spokesperson of Chakradharpur railway division.
The train will leave Mumbai every Tuesday and Saturday at 1.20pm. From Tatanagar, it will leave on Thursday and Sunday at 9.55pm.
In Chakradharpur division, the train will stop at three stations - Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Chakradharpur, the spokesperson said.
The fully unreserved train has modern amenities such as water purifiers, fire extinguishers, cushioned luggage racks and LED lights. Toilets are similar to the ones in the first-class coaches of Rajdhani Express.
Chotanagpur Passengers Association welcomed the move.
"It will benefit passengers who cannot afford to travel in other mail and express trains between the two destinations. The fare is reasonable," said Arun Tiwary, a functionary of the association.
A senior railway official said the fare between the two cities is less than Rs 400.
