Ranishwar (Dumka), Dec. 5: Hundreds of people gathered around Tollywood filmstars Tapas Pal and Satabdi Roy today as the two Trinamul Congress MPs held meetings across the Shikaripara constituency to campaign for party candidate, Munni Hansdak.
Addressing the rally at Ranishwar grounds, Pal, the party’s MP from Krishnagar in Bengal, urged voters to back Hansdak to strengthen the “hands of Mamata Banerjee” and ensure certain developmental projects for their area.
He said that if the TMC candidate won, a new railway line would be constructed from Dumka to Suri, via Pattabari and Massanjore. He urged people to vote for Hansdak as she was “bold leader fighting for your cause against the illegal land acquisition”.
Pointing out that corruption had turned Jharkhand into a dark hub, Pal added: “Your state is among the richest in the country but you don’t have proper food.”
Pal also promised to revive the Massanjore hydel power project that has been lying defunct. “The Ranishwar area will enjoy 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply,” he said, and signed off with a Bengali song, “Bashle bhalo rakhbo dhore (If you love us we will be with you),” to convince the people of the TMC’s commitment towards the state.
Roy, the TMC MP from Birbhum in Bengal, spoke of Singur and Nandigram as examples of what “Didi” could do for the common man.
“Our party has the ability to fight against every injustice and we are the only ones who can solve your problems,” she claimed.
Pal and Roy, who conducted their meetings at Patzore, Ranigram football ground and Ranishwar, were also accompanied by party colleague and Union minister Mukul Roy.
