The arrival of multinational insurance companies has opened several lucrative avenues for job seekers. Students aspiring to make a career this sector can enroll for a course to learn the tricks of the trade. The Asian Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (AIIRM)?s Ranchi regional centre helps students prepare for insurance examinations conducted by Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai, whose recognition is a must for gaining a foothold into the insurance sector.

Course content: Three level of courses are offered at AIIRM. The first level, ?Licensiate?, includes principals and practices in insurance, business environment and information technology. The next level, ?Associate? deals with insurance policies. The third level, ?Fellowship? prepares students with on management, risk management and re-insurance.

Duration: Licensiate - four months; Associate - four months (with additional study hours); Fellowships - six months.

Eligibility: Students must have passed their Plus Two examination.

Course fees: Licensiate - Rs 900; Associate - Rs 1,200; Fellowship - fee is yet to be determined.

Prospects: A course in insurance promises tremendous employment opportunities for students. The boom in the sector has been giving employment to a large number of youths. It is believed that after information technology, insurance is the second largest employment provider to the youths. With the rural sector of India going untapped in this section and manpower requirement, things are expected to improve in the coming days and experts feel that it may surpass the sector in generating employment.
