From problem-busting to website designing, budding engineers of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur, wracked their brains at tech fest Ojass 2017 that kicked off on their Adityapur campus on Friday.
The three-day fest comprises 72 competitive events with a prize money of Rs 10 lakh and coupons worth Rs 5 lakh.
In its eighth consecutive year, around 2,500 students from 10 engineering colleges like Padmanava College of Engineering, Rourkela; Bokaro College; ICFAI, Hyderabad; Veltech University, Chennai; Darbhanga College of Engineering, Bihar; BIT-Sindri; KIIT Bhubaneswar and Guru Gobind Singh Educational Society's Technical Campus, Bokaro, are taking part.
Seraikela-Kharsawan DC Ramesh Gholak inaugurated the tech fest in the presence of NIT-Jamshedpur director Rambabu Kodali and others.
"We had started preparing for the fest three months ago. Ojass is all about technology and we need to put to use the lessons that we are taught in class," said Nitika Sharma, a third-year student of NIT-Jamshedpur.
On Day One, students exhibited their technical skills and mental aptitude in events like coding, website designing, application designing, database query, problem solving and Bizzathlon, a business quiz.
Actors Sumeet Vyas and Amol Parashar entertained the students with their witty one-liners during a talk show.
Among the events lined up for the weekend are Rise of Machines on mechanical engineering, Produs on production and industrial engineering, Avartan on metallurgy, Akriti on civil engineering, Neo Drishti on computer applications, Silicon Valley on electronics and communication, Vishwa Code Genesis on computer science and Circuit House on electrical and electronics engineering.
Vishwa Code Genesis, the coding contest, was designed as a tribute to NIT-Jamshedpur alumnus Shubham Vishwakarma, an excellent coder.
The fest will witness group discussion, paper presentations and proposing business ideas.
A film-making and photography competition will unleash student creativity.
Entrepreneur Varun Agarwal, artist Vilas Nayak and stand-up comedian Zakir Khan will speak to students in the next two days.
